Single Net
Single Nets for overhead frames are available in a variety of sizes starting at 6′ x 6′. Singles are made from a single layer of bobinette (a mostly transparent black-threaded fabric), and reduce light transmission by about 1/2 stop, without impacting the hardness or color of the light source. Single net edges are typically color coded green, while double nets use red.
The most common application for single nets is to manage contrast by reducing exposure of a hard source like the sun or a large HMI. Nets are also sometimes used in frame, between the subject and background, when depth of field is shallow. This can have the effect of reducing the background exposure and contrast. While similar to ND gel, nets have the advantages of being non-glossy and silent, making them very useful for night scene closeups and situations where the background exposure cannot be otherwise controlled.
This style of net is designed to be mounted to a correspondingly-sized frame, available separately. We also offer a smaller single net with integrated frame in sizes from 12″x18″ to 48″ x 48″. All of our overhead fabrics come with fully grommeted edges, tie lines, elastic straps on the corners, and bags.
